You may have heard of Google Glass

You may have heard of Google Glass, the wearable, voice-activated, computer disguised as a pair of specs. Well, you can now buy a pair (that’s one computer in a pair of glasses) for £1000.

Treated with suspicion by some who foresee privacy issues and who are concerned about the implications of wearable sound and vision recording equipment, but welcomed by many IT enthusiasts who see the potential of wearable technology, for us the jury is still out.

However, the possibilities for those with disabilities are intriguing. Already trials are taking place to determine whether it could be used to aid those with hand tremor caused by Parkinson’s disease.

We will be following the research with interest and doubtless purchasing Google Glass at some point in the future, to carry out our own experiments.
