Scottish designer wins $1 million to fund the manufacture of his smart wheelchair design

Andrew Slorance won the Toyota-run global Mobility Unlimited Challenge with his Phoenix I design which uses smart sensors to detect if the user is leaning forward or backwards and adjusts accordingly to prevent tipping.  The wheelchair is hoped to be manufactured to be affordable and competitive.  This article explains what Andrew did to produce the prototype using 3D technology, and his reasons behind the design.
